September 2019 Events
While the rest of the northern hemisphere is getting ready to pull out their fluffy sweaters and get their pumpkin spice on, the sun is still shining and the weather is sweet here in Gran Canaria. Summer isn´t going anywhere any time soon, and this month is packed with events, live music and local festivals.
From the massive Pino party (La Fiesta del Pino in Teror) to the sounds of the SUM music festival and the many romerías and cultural events (especially the biggies on the north and west coasts!), there´s no time to get bored this September!
I´ll be adding new events all month as they come to my attention, so don´t forget to bookmark this page for updates.

My Top 5 Picks for September 2019
- La Fiesta del Pino in Teror celebrates Gran Canaria´s patron saint and is one of the biggest parties of the year. Absolutely not to be missed!
- Las Fiestas del Charco in La Aldea de San Nicolas is a massively important cultural event, going all the way back to the indigenous roots.
- La Fiesta de Sardina (Sardina Viva) is a perfect excuse to explore this little-known paradise along the Gáldar coast, with live music and a fish fry-up to boot!
- SUM Music Festival: The second addition of the SUM music festival in Las Palmas is sure to bring more great acts and great fun with both local and world artists.
- Romería Nuestra Sra. del Rosario en Vegueta is a traditional block party in the heart of historical Vegueta in Las Palmas. Culture & tradition without even having to leave the capital!

La Fiesta del Pino in Teror Pilgrimage & Romería: This weekend, Gran Canaria celebrates her Patron Saint – Nuestra Señora del Pino – in Teror. The whole island comes out to play, as do isleños from the rest of the archipelago.
Saturday is the biggest day of events and includes a midday romería and verbena, or for the more adventurous, a pilgrimage up the mountain to Teror from either Las Palmas or Arucas. Read more about La Fiesta del Pino here.

Bajada de la Rama in La Aldea de San Nicolas: Somehow I´ve yet to make it to this one… undoubtedly since the Pino party is quite frankly exhausting (and because no one ever wants to drive all the way to La Aldea).
That said, word on the street is that this Bajada de la Rama is quite similar to that of Agaete, which just so happens to be my favorite party on the island. If you´ve got a designated driver who doesn´t mind heading out to the wild wild west, this one is sure to be a blast.

Romería de San Nicolás in La Aldea: Festivities continue in La Aldea de San Nicolas, including mass, a procession, music and dancing.
September 11, 2019 (Wednesday)
Las Fiestas del Charco in La Aldea de San Nicolas: The charco (in Playa de La Aldea) is the symbol of this region and this is their biggest party. The day is filled with live music and dancing, and finally culminates with hundreds (thousands?) of fiesteros jumping into the charco with baskets, trying to catch fish bare handed in the style of the ancient indigenous peoples of the region.

So little time, so many parties!!! Oh my gosh, how do you choose?! Gran Canaria definitely sounds like the place to be in September!!

I’ve not done much research on the Canary Islands and it rarely pops up on lists of places that I want to head to. Looks like I need to do a bit more research – who knew there was so much to see and do. Looks like a great option for those looking to extend their summer fun through September – fiestas galore. What a fantastic resource of events to enjoy in Gran Canaria. Was out with friends last night and one is visiting GC soon so will pass this on to him, hopefully one of the events falls within his visit!

Tantas fiestas – que suerte tienes! You are right, the (part of) the world is getting ready for the warm clothing. I’m in Croatia right now where it’s still really hot, but in one week I’ll be one of the sweater-people- instead of sweating….and then I will envy you when I remember all these September-events 😉

I’ve visited this region many places as a kid but I’ve not been back as an adult, but the culture here is just amazing and we really want to experience it.
