March 2020 Events
Spring is sprung, days are getting longer and the sun is getting warmer. March in the islands means that the almond blossoms are blooming in Gran Canaria´s peaks and the glitter and confetti are bursting at Carnival celebrations in Las Palmas, Maspalomas and dozens of other cities around the island.

Carnaval 2020!
The month starts off with the grand finale of Carnival revelry in the capital, followed by the start of Maspalomas´ explosive Carnival celebrations from March 5 – 20, 2020. Put on your dancing shoes, turn up the volumne and sing along to my favourite Carnaval anthem while you read on!

The Maspalomas Carnaval Parade night we´ve all been waiting for! Today is arguably the biggest day of Carnival in the south, boasting a massive parade throughout Playa del Inglés. Put on your best costume and head out for a full day of batucada and a full night shakin´ your groove thang.
Locals from Las Palmas and all over the island migrate south for winter Carnival. The parade begins at 17:00 at El Veril (Playa del Inglés) and heads toward Avenida Turoperador Tui vis Avenidas de Italia and Gran Canaria, where people will be partying until the wee-est of hours (17:00).

Another year of Carnival craziness is wrapping up in the south, but Sunday offers a full day of fun and festivities that are definitely not to be missed.

20:00: Last will & testament of the sardine

🍀🍀 Happy St. Paddy´s Day! 🍀🍀
St. Patricks at Paddy´s Irish Pub: Details yet to be released, but Paddy´s Irish Pub on Las Canteras Beach has built a reputation on their St. Paddy´s parties, so something will def be going on here.
St. Patricks at the Irish Rover: The smaller (if not more authentic) Irish pub in town will be ringing in fiddling in St. Paddy´s day with pints of Guiness, live music and plenty of laughs. Last years´ celebrations really reminded me of being in a pub back in Ireland and I´d highly recommend checking it out (Calle Galicia).

If there´s one community in Gran Canaria who knows how to party, it´s gorgeous Agaete! If you know me, you know that La Rama de Agaete in July is favourite festival on the islands, so I´m stoked to check out Agaete´s carnival for the first time this year!

Entierro de la Sardina (Burial of the Sardine)
The first day of March is the last day of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Carnival 2020, and we´re all in mourning. Throw on your best black dress, widow´s veil and fish net tights for an irreverent procession following a giant sardine through the city.
You read that right.
As we say goodbye to Carnival, Las Palmas burns a giant papier-mache sardine at Las Canteras beach in an explosion of lights, colours and fireworks. For details and parade routes, find out more about the Entierro de la Sardina here.

Carnival del Sur in Maspalomas starts in just a couple of weeks. Party on!
Isleta Sunset at Clipper La Puntilla: If you´re not up for parading through the city, start of your evening at Clipper´s weekly sunset live music event featuring TBA (jazz; 17:30), and then head on down the beach to see the sardine go up in smoke.

The 2020 theme at Maspalomas Carnival is Musicals , so I´d expect to see plenty of Mary Poppin´s Cats and Chicago-esque flappers
dancing in the dunes until the wee hours.
2020 Maspalomas Carnival Inauguration & Drag Queen Preselection: Maspalomas will be ringing in the start of the south´s festive Carnival season at (of course!) the Yumbo Center, starting from 20:00.
