Spring is in the air! Aside from some damp and gray days over the last month, spring should be in full force over the next couple of weeks and full of all the good stuff the islands have to offer. Spring in the Gran Canaria means a romería in every pueblo, Pride 🏳️‍🌈 in the south and dozens of festivals celebrating local products like wine, cheese and strawberries 🍷🧀.

The month of May also means Labor Day, Mother´s Day and (one of my personal favourites) Canary Islands Day. On top of all that, the sun is shining, the birds are singing and the countryside is in full bloom. It´s the perfect time to get out there and check out some of the stunning nature on the island. My top recs include Charco Azul, Moya and of course, Barranco de las Vacas. Get out there and smell the cactus blooms!

Celebrate Canary Islands Day in the capital! From 12:00, Plaza Santa Catalina and the surrounding streets with host live music, tasty treats and a parade. Dress up in your finest traditional Canary costume and boogie down to the smooth beats of the timple surrounded by folk groups, oxen carts and papagüevos.

Tapas Thursday / Noche de Pinchos in Vegueta: tasty tapas, cold beers and lots of laughs in Las Palmas´ historic center. As many schools will be off for a long weekend, this week´s tapas night is sure to be a blast!
